The Computer School needs you!
Get involved by joining the Computer School PA Board or SLT!
The PA is an integral part of what makes CS great and needs a variety of new volunteers for this year! Although there are several positions open, some have a greater urgency as they are currently unfilled.
Unfilled Positions:
VP Community Affairs (up to 2)
The Vice President of Community Affairs is responsible for the community events that take place at the Computer School for students, parents, and families. These events include but are not limited to BBQs, dances, and potluck events.
6th Grade Representative
This position shall represent the 6th grade parent members at all general PA and Executive Board meetings.
6th Grade SLT Representative
The SLT is a team made up of parents, teachers, and three mandatory members (Principal, UFT representative, and PA President). The SLT meets monthly throughout the year and is charged with developing and managing the school's Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP) goals and ensuring that the school budget is aligned to the CEP. To learn more about the SLT and member responsibilities, please read through the SLT bylaws (specifically Article I and Article II, Section 8). (The CEP and SLT bylaws were emailed to families.)
CEC Representative
Community Education Councils (CECs) in the City of New York shape education policies and advocate for all of the City’s public elementary and middle school children. Responsibilities of school representatives include, but are not limited to, evaluating District Superintendents, giving feedback on the Department of Education’s (DOE) capital plans and budgets, advising the Chancellor on the needs of their district’s Pre-K to 8th grade schools, co-hosting hearings for changes to charter and school Education Impact Statements, and reviewing and evaluating schools’ space planning and instructional programs. CECs must also approve all changes to their district school zoning lines. This body of elected parent representatives holds public monthly meetings. Their calendar, duties and news are online at www.cec3.org.
